Silas began eating vegetables. He acted like he had been eating them since birth. I was actually kinda disappointed because there were no funny faces with his first food!
Then, just since the beginning of March we have enjoyed the Daddy daughter dance put on by the local parks department. Morganne and Kaelynn went with Justin this year. They got all dressed up and had a great time. Justin commented that he was a bit disappointed in some of the dads due to not getting out and dancing with their daughters. Justin did not let embarrassment get the better of him (I don't think Justin gets embarrassed honestly. One of the traits I love most in him. I wish I was more like this...) and danced with the girls a lot. He said one of his favorite moments was dancing with Kaelynn while they both belted out at the top of their lungs the "Hello from the other side" song by Adele. I can imagine it perfectly. Probably because it happens in our house often.... ;c)
Around the beginning of March, Grandad had the flu and we stayed away for over a week. Then Nana got sick, and Kaelynn developed a cough. Pour Silas got the brunt of it though when he developed a cough and it lead to a RSV diagnosis and a night in the hospital. As much as no one wants to go into the hospital, I am grateful our doctor used caution and suggested we be admitted. I am pretty laid back when it comes to illnesses, and she knows this, but we both were uncomfortable with how Silas was breathing. They hospital didn't do much, as it's a virus that just has to run its course, but I was so much more at piece with just being there monitoring his O2 level in case something did happen. It was a long night, but we were discharged 24 hours later and he slowly improved. Sleep has been lacking this whole month between Silas and Ryleigh interruptions. We had a set back a couple days ago as I believe Silas has developed a bacterial component now, but we've now started some antibiotics, so hopefully we will be in the clear finally soon.
The weekend after our hospital stay, Sue and Fred came in town and we had Morganne and Kaelynn's birthday parties. Unfortunately, due to the RSV diagnosis in our family, and flu diagnosis' in other friend's families, attendance was lower than hoped, but we still had a great time and many friends came. It was Morganne's first planned sleep over. Only one friend ended up staying all night, but that was plenty. Especially for us, sleep deprived parents. We had a good visit with Sue and Fred and were blessed by a brief visit from Papo, who unfortunately was in town due to the death of a close friend. We were thankful for the visit however, and look forward to May coming soon when Phyllis and he return to Indiana.
Last week we unexpectedly lost my Mom's golden retriever, Reba. She would have been 13 in April. We will miss her a lot as she was one of our best kid and puppy raisers. She was also my Ripken's mom. Makes me think all the more that he is getting older and I'm not ready to lose him....
Other than losing Reba, this last week has been so nice with little planned happenings. We've had dinner as a family each night at home with decent bedtimes. All that will change this coming week with the start of softball. Once again we will have two teams playing between Morganne and Kaelynn, Justin is coaching both, and he's on the board this year so he has those responsibilities as well. We have officially become a softball family. It will take up a minimum of 4 nights a week now through June. It's a good thing we enjoy it.... ;c)
Most recently, Kaelynn had "job day" at school and needed to dress up like the profession she someday wanted to work in. She of course likes to be like Mommy, so wanted to dress up like a Veterinary Technician. I pulled out some of my old scrubs, rolled up the pants a bit, adorned it with a stethoscope and stuffed animal and she looked pretty darn cute! I will cherish this picture for years to come....
